For more than five decades, Robert Reed investigated formal abstraction through the media of painting, drawing, printmaking and collage.  Reed grounded his paintings in spatial awareness developed though drawing and collage.  Reed was Professor of Painting and Printmaking at Yale University School of Art, where, in 1987 he was the first African-American to be named to the School of Art's tenured faculty.
