Exhibitions at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center link the past to the present. Our permanent exhibition Pride Overcomes Prejudice presents the history of the African American communities of Charlottesville/Albemarle VA, through the lives of those students and teachers who built and fostered the Jefferson School from the19th through the 20th century. Our contemporary gallery features mult-idisciplinary work by African American artists, or artist who represent African American culture.

Residents of Charlottesville and Albemarle County, with proof of residency, can visit JSAAHC free of charge. Non-residents entry ticket is $10 for adults and $8 for students with proper id and youth under 18 years of age. Children under the age of 5 are free. Groups must purchase individual tickets. We can accomodate up to 8 people in a group. If you are a group of greater than 8, please contact our education department to arrange your visit: education@jeffschoolheritagecenter.org

Covid Policy:

The health and wellbeing of our community is our first priority. Proof of Vaccination is required upon entry. By acquiring this ticket you confirm that you have not tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 14 days or been required to be in a quarantine during the last 7 days.

  • You have not been in contact with anyone suspected of or diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • You are not experiencing any of the following symptoms; fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, or persistent pain in the chest.
  • You have not been out of the country or state within the last seven days.
  • You agree to remain masked and socially distanced from attendees for the duration of your attendance.
