Reparations Run/Walk

03/01/2022 08:00 AM - 03/06/2022 12:00 PM ET

Description

The annual Reparations run/walk will take place March 1-6, 2022. This year we are raising funds to support 7 organizations: 101.3 JAMZAfrican American Teaching Fellows fellows program; Jefferson School African American Heritage Center's exhibition program; the NAACP’s Youth Council; PHAR's community organizing efforts; Vinegar Hill Magazine's Black Business advertising fund; and We Code Too. These organizations all have Black leadership and support the community directly. The event's 9.7 mile route allows you to appreciate some of Charlottesville’s rolling hills, engage with some of the City’s African American businesses and most importantly, learn about our local African American history.

We encourage individuals, families, co-workers and groups to participate. Run/Walk the course over a series of days or several times in a week. Create a team or your own fundraiser.  Don’t want to run or walk, you can still participate by making an outright donation to the event.

This year, PHAR plans to use the funding towards our community organizing efforts. This includes our dynamic internship program as well as our resident-led redevelopment efforts. For over 20+ years PHAR has been amplifying the voices of low-income residents and as we continue the work, we will always be centering, educating, and empowering the low-income residents of Charlottesville.--Shelby Edwards, PHAR executive director

Last year, the money given to jamz WVAI was truly a blessing. We were able to upgrade to a larger studio & upgrade some of the equipment in the studio which was much necessary and on behalf of the board of directors we thank you we are forever grateful.--Jaquan Middleton, program director
